Technology behind the IP Ledger – Doing more with less
The IP Ledger solution contains some interesting technical features:
- Workflow logic internally but also spanning accross to the royalty systems
- System integration (near real time)
- Reporting tables with 10 dimensions and tools to create reports flexibly. These reporting tables are constantly kept up to date and allow reporting accross the entire system.
- Tagging. The different business departments no longer send each other streams of emails. Instead, they tag comments to the business objects (accounts, statements, FI documents, …) and these comments can be read by other departments. Comments can be highlighted and can be used to halt a workflow process.
- Monitoring. The system emails the helpdesk regularly about anything and everything that’s going on or wrong in the system.
All of this was achieved by using ‘basic’ ABAP tools. We did not install or use BI, XI, SAP workflow or Office integration. Was that the right decision?
I believe this has helped tremendously to build a system that is easier to maintain and support and is more stable.
